Community Guidelines
Green Room Ohio works like a good green room: a place to swap notes, ask for help, and cheer each other on before the curtain goes up. These guidelines keep it that way.
The ground rules
Be kind and assume good intent. Everyone here is a volunteer, a professional giving their time, or someone who loves the stage. A question that seems basic to you took courage to ask. Answer it the way you'd want to be answered at your first audition.
Keep board business in the boardroom. Many of us serve on boards, and the hard stuff (personnel issues, disputes, finances that haven't been made public) is exactly what we need advice on. Ask the question in general terms.
Protect kids and people's privacy
Kids are part of almost every season, so treat their information with extra care. Don't post names, photos, or other identifying details of anyone under 18 without permission from a parent or guardian.
Don't share anyone's personal information. That includes phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, and donor or patron lists. A sample donor letter is a great resource. Your actual donor list is not.
Remember that posts are public. Anyone can read the discussion board and resource library, so write as if your board president, your director, and your mom might all see it. They might.
Share generously and give credit
The resource library only works if people share, so please do. A few rules keep it fair to everyone who created the work:
-
Share only what you have the right to share. Your own templates, your theater's forms (with permission), and free public materials are all fair game.
-
Never upload licensed scripts, scores, or rehearsal materials. Licensing companies like Music Theatre International and Concord Theatricals own those, and sharing them can put a theater's performance rights at risk. Link to the publisher instead.
-
Give credit where it's due. If you adapted someone else's work, name them in the credit field.
-
Explain why it helps. Every link needs a short description so people know what they're clicking and why it's worth their time.
If you believe something here infringes your copyright, email abbey.kanellakis@gmail.com and we'll take a look right away.
Keep it useful
No selling or spam. Don't use discussions to pitch products, services, or fundraisers for unrelated causes. If you offer a service theaters genuinely need, share your expertise in an answer and let your helpfulness do the marketing.
Put events where they belong. Auditions, shows, and workshops go on the Events page, where they get approved and added to the calendar. Discussion posts about an event are fine if you're asking a real question.
Stay on topic and pick the right topic tag. Green Room Ohio is about community theater and the performing arts. Choosing the right topic helps the next person find your post.
How moderation works
Green Room Ohio is moderated by a real person who reads what gets posted. When something crosses the line, here's what happens:
-
The post, reply, or resource gets hidden while we take a look. Most of the time that's the end of it.
-
We reach out if it's a misunderstanding or an easy fix, like a minor's photo or a licensed script.
-
Repeat or serious problems (harassment, hate speech, threats, or spam) can lead to removed membership.
See something that doesn't belong? Email abbey.kanellakis@gmail.com with a link to the post and a sentence about what's wrong. We read every report, and we won't tell the poster who flagged it.
These guidelines will grow with the community. If you think something's missing, tell us. Now go break a leg.
