Welcome, and thanks for pulling up a chair.
The green room is the space just offstage where the cast waits, the crew regroups, and everyone shares the nerves and the jokes before the curtain goes up. This board is that room for the whole region: a place for actors, crews, volunteers, parents, board members, and theater fans across North Central Ohio to ask questions and share what works.
What belongs here
- Questions, big or small. "How do other theaters handle season tickets?" and "What's a call time?" are both welcome.
- What's working at your theater: a fundraiser that took off, a rehearsal trick, a better way to run a board meeting.
- Lessons learned the hard way, so the next theater doesn't have to learn them that way too.
- Shout-outs for people going above and beyond. (Know someone who deserves the spotlight? Nominate them on the Spotlights page.)
A few ground rules
- Be kind. Many people here are volunteers learning as they go. Everyone was new once.
- Talk about ideas, not people. Share your experience without calling out a specific theater, board, or person.
- Keep it general. Discussions are for sharing experience, not professional advice. For legal, tax, or financial decisions, talk with a qualified professional. Look for the Expert badge on answers from professionals who volunteer their time.
- Protect privacy, especially kids'. Don't post children's names, photos, or anyone's private details.
- No selling. Help first. Your profile shows what you do.
The full rules are in our community guidelines.
How to get started
- Reply to this post and introduce yourself: your name, your theater (or your favorite one to visit), and what you do there.
- Browse the topics, or use the search box to see if your question has come up.
- Start a discussion. Give it a clear title, like a question you'd type into Google. Specific titles get better answers.
We're glad you're here. Break a leg!

Hi, everyone! I’m Abbey, and I’m the one who built this place. It seemed only fair to go first.
I caught the theater bug as a kid, when my grandma took me to see “Oklahoma!” at The Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky. The actors seemed like celebrities, and I knew right away I wanted to be up there with them. I performed through school and college, and in recent years I’ve been on stage locally in shows like “Sweeney Todd” and “Seussical.” (Yes, I was The Cat in the Hat. Yes, there are photos. No, you can’t see them yet.)
Offstage, I’ve spent my career in public relations, marketing, and communications. I’ve also served as president of a community theater board, which taught me a lot about how much work happens behind the curtain. Talking with leaders from other theaters, I kept hearing the same struggles: filling seats, finding volunteers, raising money, and keeping a board running smoothly. Green Room Ohio grew out of those conversations.
My two daughters are involved in theater too, so our house runs on rehearsal schedules, costume emergencies, and a lot of show tunes.
How I can help here:
- Marketing, publicity, and getting the word out about your shows
- Writing press releases, social posts, and newsletters
- Board questions, from bylaws to meeting headaches
Now it’s your turn! Reply and tell us:
- Your name and where you’re involved (on stage, backstage, on a board, or in the audience)
- The first show that hooked you
- One thing you’d love help with, or one thing you could help others with
I can’t wait to meet you!
